Ian F. Henchy
Ian Henchy, Attorney
Ian first began working with the Yannetti Criminal Defense Law firm while attending Northeastern University School of Law. Beginning in 2019, Ian started drafting substantive motions — including motions to dismiss, motions to suppress, motions in limine, and discovery motions — for both Attorney Yannetti and Attorney Johnson for their cases in District and Superior Courts throughout Massachusetts. After completing an initial summer internship, Ian decided to continue working with the firm part-time while completing law school.
After graduating from Northeastern University School of Law in 2020, Ian continued working in the field of criminal defense. He spent nearly two years working as a Bar Advocate — a private attorney who represents indigent criminal defendants in Massachusetts — for Norfolk County Bar Advocates, Inc., in addition to managing his own private caseload. Ian continued to appear on behalf of clients represented by the Yannetti Criminal Defense firm in courtrooms all over Massachusetts before joining as a full-time Associate in 2022.
Ian has represented hundreds of clients at all stages of criminal proceedings in Massachusetts, from clerk magistrate’s hearings through verdict at trial, in both misdemeanor and felony matters. He has represented countless clients at contested two-party restraining order hearings, which — though civil in nature — can have serious consequences for the firm’s clients. Ian has also represented clients before the Land Court, a specialty Court in Massachusetts with jurisdiction over real estate and land use matters, as well as the Massachusetts Appeals Court.
Ian’s attention to detail in his written advocacy has assisted both Attorney Yannetti and Attorney Johnson in obtaining the best possible results for their clients, including as a member of a four-person legal team in a high-profile murder case currently pending in Norfolk County Superior Court. As the only attorney at the Yannetti Criminal Defense firm who did not begin his career as a prosecutor, Ian’s legal work on criminal cases has solely been in his capacity as a defense attorney.
Prior to attending law school, Ian graduated summa cum laude from Berklee College of Music — where he ultimately transferred from Tufts University — with a Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Music. Though Ian initially planned on attending Berklee for just one semester in lieu of studying abroad during his sophomore year, he decided to transfer to Berklee beginning in his junior year to focus on music. While at Berklee, Ian also completed a minor in English, obtaining a 4.0/4.0 grade point average. After taking a “Legal Aspects of the Music Industry” course at Berklee, which was taught by an entertainment lawyer, Ian began exploring the idea of attending law school. He ultimately decided to attend Northeastern University School of Law beginning in 2017 after being offered a full-tuition merit scholarship.
Ian is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts as well as all Massachusetts State Courts.
